Italian Sweet Bread
I used to get Italian Sweet Bread at my Deli inside the grocery store, but they quit baking it. So
I had to start baking my own. It's just slightly sweet, uses common ingredients and everyone at
my house just loves it. You might enjoy it too, give it a try.
1 packet of yeast 1/4 oz., 2 tsp., dissolve in the water.
1 cup warm water, just a tad more is better.
1 tsp. salt
7 tsp. sugar, more if you want it sweeter.
Mix above five ingredients in your bowl.
3 1/2 Cups of regular flour
Add flour one cup at a time, use dough hook if your machine has one.
Spray PAM your bowl and drop in a large covered bowl to rise.
Spray the top of the dough with PAM too, cover with lid or cloth.
Allow dough to rise double, an hour or two.
Punch down, turn out onto floured dishtowel, and knead
I like to divide the dough into four equal portions, and place on PAM coated cookie sheet.
Allow it to rise double again. Air Bake cookie sheets are nice, they are about a 1/4 inch thick,
filled metal, lightweight.
Cook for 20 to 30 minutes at 350 F, 25 works around here. Bread will rise even more as it
cooks. Brown to taste, brush margarine on top. That's it, it's easy and fun, but you'll have some
good bread to eat and share. bd
Divided into four small loaves, pop into preheated 350 degree F oven.
MMMM mmmmmm, can't you just smell that hearty aroma, time to dig in!
